INSO demands pending stipend for PG Pharmacy students

Press Release

Chandigarh, July 31: Indian National Students Organisation (INSO) has reiterated its demand for the payment of stipend to PG students of Pharmacy, who has not been given stipend for the last one year. INSO has threatened student agitation over the issue, if the demand was not met in seven days.

INSO PU campus chairman, Sukhdev Kundu said that the matter is very serious and exposes the lackadaisical attitude of the concerned department & University authorities. The matter was raised earlier with PU Vice Chancellor on July 8, when INSO delegation submitted a memorandum to press the issue. INSO memorandum had stated that first year Students of M. Pharmacy, who have already been promoted to second year as well as outgoing 2nd year students, had not been given UGC stipend in academic year for the last ten months.

Some first year student has been given Stipend after the matter was taken up by INSO, but no out going second year student has yet been given any stipend for the last eleven months, which has defeated the purpose of this essential funding meant for the students, said Sukhdev Kundu. He said that the out going second year students need the stipend as they are to submit research work to their respective guides.

INSO leader said that students need the money during their study period, so students have first right on University funds, which must be provided to the students every month irrespective of the excuse of inadequacy of funds. He said that the concerned officials should understand that stipend is very essential for a student in this age of inflation. If need be, other insignificant spending may be postponed for the timely disbursal of stipend.
