PU VC accepts many INSO demands

Chandigarh, August 13: PU has accepted Indian National Students Organisation (INSO) demand of improvement facility in papers to students of all the departments, scrapping of internal assessment system in the arts faculties, reading room facility in all the girls hostels, implementation of Group Insurance Policy from this academic year, proper functioning of WI- FI system in every hostel and interim arrangement for hostel facilities.


This assurance was given by PU VC Prof R.C. Sobti to INSO delegation led by PU INSO chairman, Mr Sukhdev Kundu here today. PU VC informed INSO delegation that committee would be formed to consider the demands of changes in revaluation system so that students are not made to pay for revaluation in case their marks are increased and improvement in papers to students of all the departments.

While addressing the students outside the VC office INSO state president, Mr Vikas Rathee said that all the demands were very essential and needed to be addressed immediately in the larger interest of students' community. He said that PU should adopt a receptive approach to the students’ problems.

PU INSO Chairman Mr Sukhdev Kundu said that students of PU object to the revaluation system of the PU. The system has some inherent faults. Students were being made to pay, which are most of the time is fault of the examiner, he added. PU Administration should refund the revaluation charges of student, whose marks get increased as it was not his fault that he was given lesser marks by the first examiner, he further added.

INSO Memorandum said that PU Administration should allow improvement in papers to students of all the departments. Currently this opportunity is not available for the students of certain departments like UIET and Chemical Engineering. In this competitive age, one should be given opportunity to improve his score.

PU VC informed the INSO delegation that meeting of the teachers would be called shortly to favourably decide internal assessment system issue in the Arts faculties of University.
PU VC has also accepted to make reading rooms available in all Girls hostels. VC also accepted the INSO demand of at least 9.30 to 10.00 PM as entry time for all girls’ hostels. PU has also accepted to make serious efforts to get the Central University Status for Panjab University.

PU VC said that interested companies would be called shortly to implement Group Insurance Policy for P.U. students from this year. PU VC said that University would ensure proper functioning of WI- FI system in every hostel and related departments.

INSO has decided to continue its agitation for the other pending students problems like voting right for all the students enrolled under university in PUCSC elections including 'Department of Evening Studies' students, changes in revaluation system so that students are not made to pay for revaluation in case their marks are increased.

PU INSO President, Mr Deepak Hooda also addressed the students gathering.
