INSO CALLS FOR NATIONALISM

PRESS RELEASE

Chandigarh, August 14: While expressing its concern over the declining nationalism in society, Indian National Students Organisation (INSO) has urged the government to inculcate the nationalism among the students and the youths. INSO has asked the Panjab University to initiate regular singing of National Anthem.

In a meeting of its executive held here today, INSO leaders felt that singing of National Anthem would have definite positive impact on students. INSO leaders felt that national pride is of paramount importance in this competitive age and the youth would be motivated to work for making India as top nation of the world. In the meeting the leaders and activists hailed the recent Gold win in Beijing Olympics as phenomenal and result of love for the nation and a result of a feeling to do something extra special for our motherland.

Chandigarh INSO president, Mr Vikas Rathee said that INSO would launch a special campaign in all the colleges and educational institutions of the UT to follow this paradigm of patriotism in more encouraging manner. He emphasized over educating the students about the significance of national anthem. He stressed that national anthem works a mental conditioner that acts timely and influences eternally. National anthem is a kind of meditation that makes one to focus in a more sacred manner over the feeling of being an Indian, he added.

PU INSO president, Mr Sukhdev Kundu said that students' community is realizing that sense of patriotism is on decline and the power and allurement of money is growing. Students were looking for someone to take initiative and lead. So, INSO has taken upon itself the duty to awaken the students on this important issue of national concern, he added.

INSO executive expressed its dismay that the money power matters more than the nation these days. It is disrespectful to this nation, which had remained enslaved for centuries that youth and students are opting for greener pastures either abroad or in corporate sector within the country, for enhanced income and a luxurious lifestyle and declining their national duty. Such a tendency has resulted in a huge shortfall of officers in the Indian Army, which according to current estimates stands at around 11,200.

The number of youth who joined the course at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) has fallen to just 86 last year against the availability of 250 seats, noted INSO leaders. INSO leaders felt that the one reason being that boys are now tuned to the corporate sector for better emoluments with respect to the Army but the more important reason is that national feeling is on decline and the government is not doing enough to encourage nationalism. Globalization has no doubt provided the youth with luxury and lavish life style but to some extent it has worked otherwise too by hibernating the feeling of Indianness in them, felt INSO leaders.
