ADVISER ACCEPTS INSO DEMANDS, BUSES TO BE STARTED

Press Release

Chandigarh, August 25: Chandigarh Administration has agreed to Indian National Students organisation’s (INSO) demand about the need to start ‘Students–special buses’ in morning and evening for the students of Panchkula, Mohali and Chandigarh. This assurance was given by Adviser to UT Administrator, Chandigarh, Mr Pradip Mehra here today to INSO delegation led by INSO state president, Mr Vikas Rathee and INSO PU chairman, Mr Sukhdev Kundu.

INSO PU Chairman, Mr Kundu disclosed that meeting was very cordial and Adviser accepted the INSO demand of the students special buses so that students could come to their colleges/University and go back to their homes. He said that INSO leader apprised the adviser that Delhi Government has such arrangements for students of Delhi, where ‘U-special buses’ are run.

INSO delegation reminded the Adviser, Mr Mehra that they had met him last year on October 1, the first day of him in this tenure at Adviser office for the same demands. INSO delegation thanked the Adviser for implementing various demands like rationalisation of fees but many demands are pending despite students’ friendly attitude of the Adviser.

Adviser also agreed to INSO demand of roll back of fee hike done by some colleges to counter the rationalisation of fees. He said that he would personally see that students are not made to pay hefty amounts. He also assured that due action would be taken in the interests of students community.

INSO delegation also raised the issue of acute shortage of colleges and hostels in the city and need for more hostels for boys, girls and research scholars. INSO delegation requested the UT Administration to give more grants to PU and its colleges for the purpose of hostels and basic infrastructure. More colleges, job oriented courses needed to be provided to the students, INSO memorandum said.

INSO delegation also raised the issue of Government Colleges fees hike following the rationalisation of fees. INSO urged the Chandigarh Administration to rollback the hike & refund the fee hike to students.

INSO also raised its long pending demand of conferring the Central university status for the Panjab University. It said that PM had announced in his previous year’s Independence Day speech of setting up thirty new Central Universities in the country.

INSO has also demanded full implementation of Lyngdoh report in Chandigarh UT, as accepted by Hon'ble Supreme Court of India. INSO delegation asked for students union elections and students representation in all the educational institutions like PGI, PEC, GMCH-32, polytechnic, arts, home science colleges in Chandigarh, where students’ elections were not held last year despite the Hon’ble Court’s guidelines.
