INSO releases manifesto for PUCSC elections

Chandigarh, August 29: Indian National Students Organisation (INSO) has promised computer Lab with 100 computers studded with all the internet facilities, more students participation in national & international seminars/conferences, implementation of right to evaluate the performance of their teachers as per the UGC guidelines to provide more transparency and encourage impartiality.
This was announced by INSO PU campus president Deepika Thakur while releasing the election manifesto of INSO for the year 2009-2010. INSO is the first organisation to announce its manifesto. INSO leaders Vikas Rathee, Sukhdev Kundu, INSO PU campus chairman Deepak Hooda, INSO Chandigarh state president Sunil Kumar, former PUCSC General Secretary Mr Sunny Bhardwaj, INSO working president Sudhir Mehra, Mr Virender Boora, Mr Tapan Wadhwa, ex president, students council evening department Mr Avish Sharma and other INSO students’ leaders were also present on the occasion.
Miss Thakur said that INSO has all regards for Lecturers & teachers but right to evaluate would bring much needed transparency, responsibility & answerability in the education system. Regarding the participation in national/international seminar, she said that all the invitations for national/international seminars would be compulsorily available at the PU website on a designated student’s corner, so that all students could claim the participation as per the merit.
In another novel announcement, INSO has promised the constitution of Planning Committee of University, headed by either VC or D.S.W. with 2 Students as members. This Committee would help university in planning the future plans, needs of teaching blocks, hostels, laboratory, library facilities and more studies courses as per the requirement of the students’ community, Deepika added.
Lift charges for hostels would be got abolished and as they are part of basic requirement and not a luxury, announced INSO leaders. Concessional student passes on the pattern of Delhi Govt. would be got provided for all bus routes, applicable for all the buses of CTU, Haryana and Punjab Roadways, INSO manifesto said.
Framing of a uniform policy for allotment of hostel accommodation is another important election promise. All the lists of new admissions in hostels should be available at all the hostels and on PU website along with the percentage of the students, said Deepika. INSO has promised fundamental change in the revaluation system of the PU. PU Administration should refund the revaluation charges of student, whose marks get increased as it was not his fault that he was given lesser marks by the first examiner, said INSO leaders.
Central University to PU, implementation of Group Insurance Policy for P.U. students from this year, separate hostel facility for research scholars, more boys & girls hostels, voting right to all the students in PUCSC elections, recruitment of adequate number of Professors, Readers, Lecturers and non-teaching staff, no fee hike, central placement cell to check on performance of departmental placement cells functioning, organization of Job fests, sports fairs, Technology fairs, management fairs, pharmacy fairs, media fairs etc. on the university campus, priority to P.U. students in all the new appointments to be given in P.U. and its colleges, timely Stipend to all the research scholars, appointment of lady doctor in University Medical Centre are the other important election promises.
INSO also released a list of 22 achievements achieved by INSO during the 2007-2008 during the tenure when INSO was part of students council. They include rationalisation of fees, no annual fee increase, inclusion of students in many decision making committee related to students welfare, increase in daily allowance of the players, participation of P.U. in almost every inter-varsity, Inter- Regional Tournament, new Gym for Girls, improvement of facilities and purchasing of new equipments for multipurpose gym, computer room in all hostels with internet connections, fee started to be deposited in respective departments, earlier, which was only deposited in SBI earlier in long lines, up-gradation of existing laboratory facilities, up-gradation of department libraries with the addition of new books, PhD courses started in almost all departments of the university, organising of job fest, sports fest, science fair at the university campus etc.
INSO also claimed that many INSO demands accepted by the VC were in pipeline but had not been implemented yet. These demands include construction of four hostels for boys, four for girls, reading rooms facility for girls at Girls hostels, implementation of Group Insurance Policy for P.U. students, Geography and Psychology Master's Degree to be changed from Arts to Sciences i.e. M.A. to M.Sc., starting of M.Phil. Courses in all departments.
