INSO releases its manifesto

Press Release

Chandigarh, September 8: Indian National Students Organisation's (INSO)-Students Organisation of India (SOI) became the first students organisation to release its election manifesto.

In a unique step INSO alliance has released its achievements over a year. Releasing the manifesto, INSO-SOI presidential candidate, Sukhdev said that INSO will seek vote on its performance and issues rather than empty poll promises like other organisations. INSO achieved many milestones despite all the non cooperative attitude by PU authorities. INSO single handedly managed to stalk 10 % annual fee increase by PU authorities. 5% hike was done by PU the previous year. INSO has listed 19 such achievements and INSO has documentary proofs to prove its claim, he added.

Sukhdev said that free distribution of Admission Information Booklet by INSO was another major achievement. Rs 400 was charged for University Handbook of Information by PU. INSO got 30,000 such handbook printed and distributed them free, he reminded. Fee structure rationalisation was another INSO contribution. Earlier the different colleges charged different fee structures, he added.

Interestingly INSO has also listed eleven of its demands being in pipe line of implementation by PU or Chandigarh Administration like Implementation of Group Insurance Policy for P.U. students, Construction of four hostels for boys, four for girls, reading rooms facility for girls at Girls hostels, Geography and Psychology Master's Degree being changed from Arts to Sciences .i.e. M.A. to M.Sc etc.

INSO alliance has promised separate hostel facility for research scholars, right to vote in PUCSC elections to all the students enrolled in PU including ‘Department of Evening Studies’ , UIAMS and self financing courses. INSO-SOI has also promised to ensure recruitment of adequate number of Professors, Readers, Lecturers and non-teaching staff in various departments like BDS, Pharmacy, UIET, Law, MCA etc.

Framing of a uniform policy for allotment of hostel accommodation is another INSO promise. All the lists of new admissions in hostels would be available at all the hostels and on PU website along with the percentage of the students. As per the fundamental ‘Right of Equality’ embedded in our constitution, there should not be any discretion or favouritism on such vital issues, Sukhdev added.

Division of the hostel fees as well as hostel admission fees among those students, being forced to share rooms against their wishes or entitlement. INSO has also promised to work for the improved revaluation system. The system has some inherent faults & Students were being made to pay, which are most of the time is fault of the examiner, Sukhdev added. PU Administration should refund the revaluation charges of student, whose marks get increased as it was not his fault that he was given lesser marks by the first examiner.
