Sukhdev is INSO-SOI presidential candidate, Paramvir Singh is Secretary

Chandigarh, September 7: Sukhdev Kundu will be Indian National Students Organisation's (INSO)-Students Organisation of India (SOI) presidential candidate in PUCSC elections. Paramvir Singh (Sunny) will contest as INSO-SOI secretary candidate. Candidates for Vice President & Joint Secretary posts would be announced later.
Sukhdev is a senior research fellow with UGC in environment sciences. He is researching on Ghagghar river water pollution problems in Punjab & Haryana. He is also a founding member of SEED, a NGO working for environment and social issues apart from being an active student’s leader in PU.
Addressing the media persons, INSO-SOI presidential candidate Sukhdev said that INSO alliance would win by big margin as students of PU wanted a third alternative. INSO has always put forth innovative constructive issues and students, particularly girls & science students wanted us to not to ally with some particular organisations as they have failed to deliver again & again, said Sukhdev.
Sukhdev said that INSO-SOI panel will not make any false promises but contest on its achievements and concrete commitments. We have been able to achieve some path breaking milestones like free distribution of Admission Information Booklet, rationalisation of fee structure in PU, where many thousands rupees fee was reduced & stopping PU from hiking its 10% annual fee increase this year, he added.
Sukhdev said that INSO-SOI alliance would respect all Lyngdoh & PU guidelines and model code of conduct. He said that the alliance would use Blog, e-mail, SMS, hand made posters and other cost effective modes of election campaigning.
Deepika Thakur, herself a PhD scholar, said that PhD scholars & science students have great aspiration to have a sciences student as PU president. Girls are in favour of INSO-SOI as they have put up deserving and well-mannered candidates, she added.
INSO state president Vikas Rathee said that INSO respect the students opinion and has taken the decision to not to ally with SOPU & PUSU as they have no concern for the students issues. Their aim is just to win elections after that they have never taken up any issue with the authorities. It was only INSO, which kept on putting up students demands on all occasions and at all forums including Governor, Adviser and PU VC, he added.
SOI national president Raju Khanna said that INSO-SOI alliance is a natural alliance and would continue as both have common concern for the students cause. He said that SOI & INSO would emerge victorious as both supplement each other.
